As the foundation of the Society ensued following the repeated suggestion of our Bhutanese friends, it had been our first endeavour to initiate the founding of a Sister Organisation in Bhutan. Their website will be operational shortly and linked with ours.

A few selected project proposals are currently under evaluation. Exchange programmes in the field of media, business, financial management, controlling and health, etc., are one of the areas in which the Society could become active in the future. The assessment of the demands and possibilities in the private sector will be the task of our Bhutanese partners.

Suggestions and inquiries about possible projects and fields of co-operation are welcome.

Jangchuk Tsheten, 32 yrs., Tamshing Bumthang / Bhutan

To
The Chairman
Bhutan Swiss Friendship association
Switzerland

This is my first trip abroad. On the 30th of June we left Bhutan and reach
Delhi. We got half day rest at Delhi and stayed in Bhutan Embassy. At 1:35
am we fly from Delhi and arrived in Zurich Switzerland at 7am on the 1st of
July. At Zurich airport we were received by Mr.Ernst Reinhardt, Mr. Erich
Oberholzer, Mr Mathias Zehnder and Deki Yangzom. We were welcome by Swiss
coffee. They made 1/2 price card for travelling ticket for us and we depart
from airport.
I came with Mr.Mathias who is my host family to his house at windisch,
Brugg. At his house I meet with his wife and children. I was very happy on
the first day itself I got the chance to see the festival at Windsch. Next
day 2nd of July we had meeting with Bhutan-Swiss Society member at family
Zaugg place in Uster. First Swiss introduction and then we discuss about our
living in Switzerland. my working place was at Muri. On the 5th of July I
came to Muri Moos with Mathias and he introduced about and I got my room and
start working in the field.
During  my three months working at Muri Moos I have seen many different kind
of farming machinery which are used in the farm.I have learnt some of it
which are used by tractor and some hand work also as follows:
- To harvest potatoes by machine using tractor
- How to do potatoes grading by machine
- To produce seed potatoes
- To spreading liquid manure to grass fields by tractor
- To make grass silage and maize silage
- To cut grass by hand and also by machine

Not only working in the farm sometimes especially on weekend we used to go
for sightseeing in other parts of Switzerland. The places I had been
are:
  - Alps Findels Vättis, where the farmers use to keep their mother cows
and we also visited one Alp cheese processing unit.
- Hiking to Sardona Alp, on that mountain we saw many kinds of flowers and
also some medicinal plants.
- At Zurich we visited the Zoo. And I have also seen the Street Parade,
unbelivable function nearly one million people gathered.
Luzern - we walked through the old town and the wooden bridge. We took a
ship ride and also visited the train museum.
- On the 17th of August it was staff day at Muri Moos and we went on tour to
the Central Alps of Furka pass and Grimsel pass in the bus, we were 45
people.
- Tour to Basel, there I saw the meeting point of three countries - France,
Germany and Switzerland.
- Tour around Winterthur organised by Mr. Oberholzer, he took us through the
forest and explained the different types of forest in Switzerland, then we
also visited the Technorama museum.
- Tour to Bern with Mathias
- Went to see saturday vegetable market at Baden
- Went to Sieben Br\'fcnner mountain
>From my sightseeing I learnt like:
- How to develop forest
- Not practically but theorotically I learnt to process Swiss cheese
- Know the cultural and custom of the Swiss
- confident to travel alone in the train
So this programme was very interesting and good for me as I learnt many new
things which can help me when I reach back to Bhutan.
Lastly I would like to thank Bhutan-Swiss Friendship Association for giving
me this oppertunity to come to Switzerland to learn. And to my host family
Mr.Mathias Zehnder, Karin Zehnder, Mr. Veli and Kathi and also Mr. Raphael
Schwitter and Annemarie for all their support and kindeness.
Thank to Muri Moos for giving the work.

Training Report by Sangay Tshering
Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs
Tashichhodzong, Thimphu : Bhutan

spacerThe Swiss-Bhutan Friendship Association (Society Switzerland-Bhutan) through the Switzerland-Bhutan Exchange Program had organized and conducted a practical attachment training on modern office works and IT-tools [includes MS word, MS Excel and Database etc] from 19th September to 23rd October 2005 at the Company of ecoprocess Ernst Reinhardt and Partners Ltd. in Zurich. It mainly focused on the highly modernized office works and handling of IT-tools in a systematic and advanced way.
I have been fully guided by the Chairman, Ernst Reinhardt on modern office works and IT-tools throughout my practical attachment training in Switzerland and partly by Patrick Vogel on IT-tools and Project Management at the reflecta Company in Bern.
Mr. Mario Fehr, Member of the National Parliament, Lower House, Switzerland has organized a guided tour to the Swiss Parliament in session. His information on the working procedures of the Swiss Parliament and it’s relation to the Government, as well as with regards to some salient features of Swiss federalism were extremely valuable.
The tour was attended by Board members of the Society and Mr. W. Kuelling, former Secretary General of Helvetas. In addition, I was also been briefed by Mr. Dominique Guenat on the roles and responsibilities of the village councillor with emphasis to the tasks of small communities. This has enhanced my knowledge about the democratic setup in Switzerland and has enabled me to make some comparative studies with our
government policies.
During weekends, an exposure trip had been organized to Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Basel, Bern, Zurich and Bernese Oberland, Schilthorn etc. thus familiarizing with daily life and transport in Switzerland. Besides gaining exposure, the course has enabled me to interact with important personalities and establish good personal relationship and understanding with them.

I have also been involved in the preliminary preparation of the Joint Cultural Programme-2008 on the occasion of the centenary of the Wangchuk dynasty. The Society Switzerland-Bhutan in co-operation with it’s sister organization Bhutan-Switzerland prepared to contribute substantially to this august occasion. A cultural road show with Swiss and Bhutanese musicians, accompanied by a catering team, that will tour from West to East and South will be the back-bone. Furthermore, a well illustrated documentation on the longstanding co-operation and friendship between Bhutan and Switzerland is conceived in close touch with Helvetas.

I also had an opportunity to meet the following important persons during my staying in Switzerland, which was arranged by Chairman, Mr. Ernst Reinhardt.
a) Mr. Mario Fehr, Member of the National Parliament, Lower House, Switzerland
b) Mr. Werner Kuelling, Former Secretary-General, Helvetas HQ, Zurich.
c) Mr. Andreas Wiederkehr, Desk Officer Bhutan, Helvetas HQ, Zurich.

The following are the benefits of the course:
1. Good exposure to modern office works and handling of IT-tools in a systematic and in advanced way.
2. Gained useful insight into some political features of Switzerland, which are
relevant to our system.
3. Enhanced greater understanding and gained necessary skills required in
discharging the day-to-day responsibilities.
4. Able to establish very good personal relationship with important personalities.

My deepest appreciation goes to the main host Mr. and Mrs. Ernst and Annegret Reinhardt, Chairman, Society Switzerland-Bhutan with whom I stayed for the better part of my visit.

Further, I would also like to thank the following hosts for accepting me to be a part of the family during my stay in Switzerland, besides their busy and tight schedule.
a) Mr. Ueli and Mrs. Katharina Ruegg, Board Member, Society Switzerland-Bhutan.
b) Mr. and Mrs. Patrick and Dr. Dechen Wangmo, Board Member.
c) Mr. and Mrs. Dominique and Annemarie, Board Member.

Lastly, I would like to thank the Society, its Board and all my hosts having financed this tour.

Tashi Delek.
